Save yourself – and the coral – before it’s too late!
The Coral Triangle Center (CTC) is a foundation focusing on protection and conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems. Currently CTC is developing a visitor center in Sanur, Bali. Our briefing was to attract, entertain and educate a specific target group: millennials.
As a result we created ‘SOS from the deep’ – the world’s first NGO exploited educational escape room. The experience is located in a dedicated space of 5x12m on the visitor center premises.
Principle of the escape room is that visitors per team of 6 are voluntarily being locked up, in order to release themselves within 1 hour by solving a series of thematic puzzles. The experience starts with a video introduction, narrated by a marine biologist who explains about the beauty and importance of coral reefs. He also warns the visitors about the threats they face, and the fact that most of the coral reefs will be dead by 2050 if humanity will not act to stop the threats. Then the clock starts ticking and the visitors are being locked up in the first room. Along the way they will end up in various rooms, each highlighting a specific topic in relation to coral reefs: beauty, importance, threats and solutions for the future.
The contestants will have to be curious, resourceful and collaborative in order to solve all the puzzles and save themselves – and the coral – before it’s too late!
